About Rachel Ward

Rachel Ward

I translate from German and French to English and am a member of the Translators’ Association.  I specialise in translation of children’s and young adult literature as well as crime novels, fantasy and other contemporary fiction.  Outside fiction, my interests include history, especially modern German history, politics and linguistics. I also translate a wide range of general and non-scientific texts and correspondence, especially employment references/letters of recommendation, which I can reformat into a British style and "de-code".  I also provide reader's reports, book reviews and proofreading/copyediting services.

As part of my MA course, I was also involved in editing the 2002 edition of Norwich Papers, the in-house translation journal at UEA.  My main role was in helping to select the submissions for publication and in proof-reading.

I have also spent time living abroad and experiencing other cultures.  The third year of my BA was spent as an English Language Assistant at the Ludwigsgymnasium and Gymnasium am Schloss, Saarbrücken, Germany (equivalent to Grammar Schools).  This involved taking conversation and text-based classes in English lessons with pupils aged 13 - 19.  From September to December 2000, I acted as a short-term home tutor for a family working with Wycliffe Bible Translators in the Central African Republic.
